One year on from Madrazo's victory in La Vuelta

NOTICIAS-MAD-1-960x729

Vuelta a España 2019. Cantabrian Ángel Madrazo and Jetse Bol rounded off a historic double for Burgos-BH in the 5th stage finishing at the Javalambre Astrophysical Observatory. The success of humility and persistence. At 31 years of age and with a thousand battles in his legs, Madrazo showed that it is still possible to race with the illusion of a promise. That is what Ángel Madrazo did, once a gregarious rider for Movistar and now leader of Burgos-BH. The Cantabrian starred in his third breakaway in five days of racing, always with the aim of showing off the brand and earning his next contract. His presence in the breakaways made more sense as a leader of the mountains than as a contender for the win, but the concession of the peloton and his ability to rebound, time and time again, led him to the victory of his life: Javalambre.

Madrazo rode alongside his Burgos team-mate, Dutchman Jetse Bol, and another Spaniard with Cofidis, José Herrada. So much did the roosters acquiesce, that the trio reached the foot of the pass with seven minutes to spare. That was enough. The victory seemed destined to one of the other two, because the Spaniard had already made the rubber. On the climb he repeated those sensations: sometimes he attacked and opened a small gap, and other times he dropped back. At the same time, Bol was closely marking Herrada, who advanced at his own pace. When he seemed to be eliminated again, Madrazo came from behind. He launched another attack, and then another... And now he was on his way to victory. The Dutchman crossed second to finish off a historic double for our Burgos-BH.

The peloton went back to its old ways, to that custom so accentuated in the Vuelta of handing victory to the escapees. Thanks again. The adventurers have the right to try and the obligation to insist, because without these daring rides, the presence of teams like Burgos-BH would be meaningless. Nor would we enjoy such spectacular and endearing days as that Wednesday 28 August 2019 that we will remember forever.
