Which army has the best marksman in Spain?

Since he began his career in Olympic shooting competitions with short weapons almost 30 years ago, this military man has not ceased to demonstrate great dedication, skill, ability and, above all, marksmanship in each of the countless national and international championships in which he has participated, whether in the military or civilian sphere.

Since 2003, Tomás Cambeses, second lieutenant in the Spanish Air Force, has been considered a High Level Sportsman, a title awarded by the Consejo Superior de Deportes. This title - which he has renewed seven times - is only awarded to Spanish sportsmen and women who achieve high rankings in European, World and Olympic championships.

Civilian competitions
As a brief summary of his sporting achievements, in the civilian sphere, Tomás Cambeses was pre-selected for the 2004 Athens Olympics, after placing seventh in the world ranking of shooters in the Olympic Speed category.

He has participated in 84 international competitions, including World Cups -finalist on four occasions-, European Championships -sub-champion in the Standard Pistol discipline, and third place in the Central Fire modality in Serbia, in 2005, and European team champion also in Central Fire in Belgrade, in 2011-, World Championships -6th position in the final in Lahti, Finland, in 2002-, Mediterranean Games -in Bari, Italy, in 1997 he won the bronze medal in Olympic Speed-, in Iberian Match -4 golds, 1 silver and 3 bronzes-, Iberoamerican Championship -2 golds by teams in Speed and in Standard in Granada, 2012- and International Grand Prix -6 golds, 4 silvers and 5 bronzes-.

As for his record in Spanish Championships, he has won 26 gold medals in Olympic Speed, Central Fire, International Standard, Standard Air and Air Speed; adding to this medal list 19 silver medals and 11 bronze medals. He has also won 6 gold, 8 silver and 7 bronze medals in different King's Cups. With these results, he holds 16 master marksman titles in Olympic Speed Pistol, Central Fire Pistol and Standard Pistol.

Military competitions
After several years scoring top scores in different military competitions - national and international - the International Military Sports Council (IMSC) awarded him, in 2010, the Double Gold Star, the highest award for international military sporting merit.

As a member of the Air Force team - in which he has been the best marksman for 22 years - he has been selected to participate in 15 Military World Championships, including 5 Military World Games - which, like the civilian ones, are held every four years - and in Championships organised by the International Military Sports Council, in which he has won a gold medal - Gádor, Almería, 2007, with a national military record in Military Speed Pistol - and also 5 silver medals and 6 bronze medals.

In addition, he has won 12 times the Inter-Army Championship in Military Speed, 9 victories in Central Fire, 7 in Olympic Speed, 3 in Standard, and one in Pneumatic Pistol. Thanks to this record, he has won the title of Best Shooter of the Armed Forces 11 times.

When it comes to comparing himself with shooters from other armies, the National Police and the Guardia Civil, Second Lieutenant Cambeses, as a member of the Air Force, has won the National Championship of State Security Forces and Corps 11 times, in the discipline of Central Fire.
