Mobel at TRANSVULCANIA 2016

The Transvulcania is a long distance race considered to be the toughest mountain ultramarathon in the Canary Islands and one of the most important in Spain and Europe. The total course is 74.6 km long and has a cumulative elevation gain of 8,525 metres. It has been held on the island of La Palma since 2009 and has seen the participation of many national and international elite runners such as Kilian Jornet, Luis Alberto Hernando and Emelie Forsberg. Since 2012, it has been qualifying for the World Mountain Running Championships.
The race starts at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday 7th May, starts from the coast at the foot of the Faro de Fuencaliente lighthouse, runs along the Gran Recorrido GR 131 - Ruta del Bastón and runs through the municipality of El Paso via Las Deseadas, Refugio del Pilar, El Reventón, Pico de las Nieves, Pico de la Cruz and Roque de los Muchachos. The route reaches the Torre Forestal del Time in 61 kilometres. After passing through the municipality of Tijarafe, the route joins another long-distance trail that starts in Puerto de Tazacorte with the well-known GR 130 - Camino Real de la Costa and in 12.3 kilometres more, which is how long this trail lasts, you reach the finish line in Los Llanos de Aridane completing the total of 74.6 kilometres.
Runners must pass through more than 10 checkpoints along the way, with each checkpoint having a closing time. Runners outside the cut-off may be withdrawn from the race, although lateness is tolerated, as participants are usually of different levels and categories.
The celebration of the Transvulcania in La Palma has led to a series of cultural events both on and off the island, taking advantage of the important media platform and the large number of visitors that the competition brings.
Various activities, such as performances by musical groups, form the basis of the festive atmosphere that is created on the days of the event. Local singers perform songs throughout the day of the competition. Another project that takes place in Transvulcania is the exhibition in the street of stands with information about the race, sports teams, equality between women and men, gastronomy and other places of interest that offer their products or services.
In important places of the island and mainly in Los Llanos de Aridane, during the days before the Transvulcania, the buildings and streets of the city are illuminated with images and posters about this very interesting sporting event.
This year is special for Mobel Sport as our co-sponsored athlete Ismael Mtnez. Rubio (Mobel-Cemesegur).
